Removing Epoxy from Sandstone

We bought a large table with a top made of sand (http://maplered.com) Stone (http://g603.net) panels. There were a couple of what appeared to be soiled areas, that I now realize are actually smudges of the epoxy or whatever was used to fasten the panels and (http://maplered.com) border to the frame and (http://maplered.com) fill the panel seams. There are many tips on the web for removing epoxy including oven cleaner and (http://maplered.com)  paint stripper, but I don't know what is safe to use on sand (http://maplered.com) Stone (http://g603.net) .

 

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
